Act 5 Scene 1

Late at night, Iago and Roderigo are waiting for a chance to kill Cassio. When Cassio appears, Roderigo misses, and Cassio wounds Roderigo. Iago them appears and stabs Cassio in the leg. When Othello hears Cassio's screams, he thinks he is dying, and goes to kill Desdemona. Lodovico and Gratiano then enter, as Iago comforts Cassio. Iago then goes into the dark and murders Roderigo. Bianca enters, and is implicated by Iago, who fetches and sends Emilia to tell Othello what has happened.

Act 5 Scene 2

Desdemona is sleeping as Othello enters her bedroom. He kisses and wakes her and again charges her with cheating. As she protests, he smothers her while Emilia is trying to get in. Emilia then enters, and is shocked to see Desdemona's body. When Othello tells her it was Iago's idea, she tells him the truth about the handkerchief. Angrily, Othello draws his sword.

Emilia's noise attracts Iago, Montano, and Gratiano. Emilia shouts derogatory remarks at her husband, and he kills her while Montano disarms Othello. Othello manages to find a sword and wounds Iago for his deception. As Othello figures out the circumstances to Desdemona's death, he is horrified. He pulls a concealed dagger an kills himself in grief. He dies lying over his slain wife's body.
